My name is SORIN IONASCU. I was born in Romania and I came to Australia in 1996, becoming an Aussie citizen two years later.
With a degree in Electrical Engineering these are some interesting highlights of my Australian employment history:
- Quality Officer, KODAK, Coburg
- Tutor, Electrical Department, RMIT
- Team member, Bunnings, Frankston
- Proving grounds technician, BOMBARDIER trains, Dandenong
In 2005 I started my own business, owning a “Jim’s Test and Tag” franchise in Frankston; I am now getting close to ten years of successful operation in the area and still going strong. Since 2005, I have been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Frankston; during these years, I hold the Vice and the President positions.
Outside of my business life, I have a strong passion for travel and ancient civilizations as a member of the Frankston-Susono Friendship Association based in Frankston.
I have travelled several times to Japan, developing a strong interest in old and new Japanese culture and history.
I have been married for 26 years with Mirella, the love of my life, and we have a son, Bogdan, 27.
For the last ten years, due to my business commitments, I have had to visit on a regular basis few retirement villages. There I have had the sad experience to observe the frailty and the rapid degradation of the quality of life for some residents.
And this how my interest in euthanasia started to develop. I now strongly believe that every human being, myself included, should have the right to choose, when the time has come. One should be able to make one’s own end of life decisions.
