Personal Statement

My father passed away from mesothelioma (a type of asbestos related lung cancer), earlier this year. This cancer is currently almost always fatal, with sufferers passing away within a few years of being diagnosed and most will suffer enormous pain and breathlessness as well as depression for extended periods of time before passing. I watched my father suffer and battle depression for the last few  months of his life, in part at least because he had been unable to choose death on his own terms despite his medical team acknowledging there was no further treatment outside of pain relief that could be offered.

Despite strong public support and lobbying over many decades our elected representatives have failed to act. It's time to make them listen.
